As I mentioned previously we are heavily involved in the fantastic international games festival GameCity; here’s a little update from the festival director Iain Simons:

This week has been an AWESOME week for the festival. We’ve hired not one but TWO brilliant people, and then had some brilliant news about a new event we hadn’t even conceived of hours earlier. I sent an email, went to bed and then by the time I got up had the best reply ever to wake up to – THEN – had a great meeting in a park, about a park. So – in summary, y’know – all good.

One of the main projects that new-bloke Lee is working on is pushing forward with getting our archive of materials online. After three years, this is no small matter, and he’s been crouched over Final Cut all week reviewing, cataloguing and editing footage and sifting through terabytes of photo’s and mp3’s. We’re really excited about being able to share this stuff with you very soon and intend to start getting these materials up much quicker now. So quick infact, that we’re going to be giving a sneak preview of one of the highlights of this new collection on Tuesday night at the second GameCity user-group meeting. (Have I mentioned this before..?)

The idea is to gather critical friends together to share a few drinks and give us some feedback on plans we have for the show this year, hopefully steering us into making the right decisions. All of this is held in the upstairs room of the Peacock on Mansfield Rd – a venue that is of particular historic importance for the festival. Finally – I was compiling folders of assets this week and came across this, which you some of you might find interesting. One of the problems with talking about the festival to stakeholders / funders and the like, which I have to do a lot, is that it often means giving a broad description of the individual events against a backdrop of archive photographs. For the first time with this bit of footage, we’ve tried to get together a bit of film which might give a quick overview of what it’s all about. Enjoy – and let us know what you make of it.
